Classes are finally available to sign up! My team of helpers and I have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to test out the best format, camera angles, recipes, and topics for these online cake decorating classes and we've got some great stuff in store for you! The goal of all these classes is to be fun AND informative--I want you to learn a little something but have a great time doing it. After all you're making a cake, it should be a good time!
How do they work?
All group classes are broken into Levels 1-4, and cover content great for beginners and pros alike. Classes will be held during a live video chat in a private Facebook group where you'll be able to decorate along with me, watch and ask questions, or both! The great thing about the private Facebook group is that each group is only for attendees from that class, so you can feel comfortable posting questions or photos of your cake decorating projects. I'll also be able to answer questions from the group, so it's a great way for us to stay in touch!
You'll receive a workbook via email after signing up that contains recipes, shopping lists, the class schedule and more. This workbook will also be available for download in the private Facebook group.
There's also a moderator present during the live stream (thanks to my husband, Matt!!) to make sure your questions during the live stream are seen and answered.
When do they start?
The first class will be on June 20 at 11 am PST (all classes are listed in Pacific time--I live in California after all) and we will be going over how to assemble and decorate a basic layer cake along with some classic versatile piping techniques.
UPDATE: All the proceeds from this first class will be donated to a local Oakland-based organization supporting the community by working towards racial and economic equity.
What do I need?
You'll need to have your cake and frosting prepared ahead of time. You can make any cake or frosting you like but I do provide my tried and true recipes that I use for real weddings so I know they are reliable, and now you can use them too! Some classes will require special equipment, depending on the subject matter.
Every class comes with a workbook which includes recipes, a shopping list, equipment list, and a class agenda. You'll receive an email with everything you need to know as soon as you sign up. If you plan to decorate a cake during the live class with me, make sure you get a jump on your supplies. Due to COVID-19, it can sometimes be hard to get orders in enough time so just keep that in mind.
What other classes are you offering?
All other available classes are listed on the Classes page and include fun topics like mini cakes, fondant techniques, even some sugar flowers. There is also an option to do a private virtual class; these are great for folks who want to focus on one specific technique OR perfect for a small virtual group (think "girls night out" or a team-building event with co-workers). Private classes are held on Zoom instead of Facebook Live so that I can see exactly what you're working on and provide on-the-spot insight.
We'll continue to update and add more classes as we go, so if there's a class you'd like to see, or one you'd like to see AGAIN, shoot us an email at hello@samanthamayfair.com
Last but not least, I'd like to give a shout out to all my family and friends who have been so kind and helpful these last few weeks. They've taken time out of their busy schedules to review workbook documents, bake cakes, participate in live practice classes, and so much more. So major, major thanks to Matt, Sue (a.k.a Mom), Gilli, Aunt Chris, Aunt Vic, Anne, Regina, Darius, Lucy, Ally, Courtney, and Hilary <3
